This GPA calculator works out your Grade Point Average by weighting each course grade by its credit hours — the standard method used by most schools and universities.
Each letter grade maps to grade points, which are multiplied by the course's credit hours. Your GPA is the total grade points divided by the total credit hours: GPA = Σ(grade points × credits) ÷ Σ credits.
| Grade | Points |
|---|---|
| A | 4.0 |
| B | 3.0 |
| C | 2.0 |
| D | 1.0 |
| F | 0.0 |
Many schools also use pluses and minuses (e.g. A− = 3.7, B+ = 3.3). Check your institution's exact scale.
Multiply each grade's points by its credit hours, add those up, then divide by the total credit hours.
On a 4.0 scale, 3.5+ is generally considered strong, but expectations vary by program and country.
Because a high grade in a 4-credit course should count more than the same grade in a 1-credit course. Weighting reflects that.
